disabled badge holders parking in parent and child spaces! 06 Oct 2008

this drives me up the wall. the other day i went shopping with my newborn baby who obvisously is in her car seat, all the parent and child spaces were taken (i did hang around for 15 minutes) so ended up parking right at the other end of the car-park to enable me to park up with no cars next to me - therefore i had to carry the carseat in the rain to the store to pop baby in trolley. As i walked past the parent zone, nearly all of the spaces were displaying disbaled badges!!!! and to top it off, when i got back to the car someone had parked right next to me so i couldnt open the door wide enough to fix baby to the car seat base!!!! ARGHHHHH!!!! WHY!!!!!!

i totally understand, if i were you i'd speak to the store manager and ask them to put a friendly note on these cars because i'm sure if we did the same thing (PARK IN A DISABLED SPACE WE WOULD GET A FINE!!!) I have been in this very situation myself with a new born and a 3 year old , having to walk them across a busy wet car park. Hopefully the manager will help sort out this situation, goodluck.

the reason why is there are not enough disabled parking spaces. If you think getting a little car seat back in is hard you should try getting a 5 year old disabled child out of his seat into a wheelchair. It's not always about being close to the store but the space around the parking space. Most of the disabled spaces are taken up by people who can walk round the shop anyway! I think there should be some "wheelcahir users only " spaces.

People who are neither disabled or have no children who park in designated spaces deserve an on the spot fine. They are purposefully parking where they know they shouldnt. I personally enjoy it when my partner confronts these idiots and believe if more people were to do so it could help reduce the number of offenders. So come on everybody if you have been affected by this SPEAK UP and embarress these naughty parkers and watch them turn red!!

Confronting these selfish people does not, from my experience, embarrass them. I confronted a couple in a car with 2 teenagers in the back, and he simply said they were his children and what was I going to do about it. I pointed out they wer approx 18 and 20, but he still insisted that he met the criteria because they were his children. Stupid as well as selfish I think!

I do agree with you to some extent. Its very annoying when people who don't have children or those parents who think its okay to still park there because they have the child seat and baby on board sticker in the window but no child!! Now that is annoying because they should know better, they know how hard it is with children. However, I have to say that I would give up my parent/child space for a disabled badge holder any day. At least i can walk unaided or without pain to do my shopping. There should be more disabled and parent/child spaces available or fine those who use them when they shouldn't!!
