The Great Eco Nappy Scandal

The Great Eco Nappy Scandal 13 Oct 2008

Has anyone else noticed that Nature Babycare Nappies have been delisted by Sainsbury's. The only brand with any proper eco credentials is now no longer available. I spoke to the careline who told me that they are delisted because they aren't popular, my point was that they weren't given a chance to be popular because they were never stocked in any depth so were always running out. As a dad trying to make choices that are less harmful to the plant I'm really disappointed in Sainsbury's decision. They have a whole aisle of Pampers and Huggies, surely they have room for a small brand that's trying to do something positive for the planet. I though Sainsbury's had high eco ambitions.

Guess I'll just have to take my nappy shopping (and the rest of my weekly shop) elsewhere.

I suspect it actually has more to do with the fact that Sainsbury's has just brought out its own Eco nappy range! I am keen to know whether Nature Babycare is actually producing the Eco nappies for Sainsbury's or whether a large organisation has tried to squash a smaller one.

I hope it is the former it would be a shame if Sainsbury's had tried to snatch of the Nature Babycare business for itself. What happened to healthy competition - you don't see them taking Huggies or Pampers off the shelves to promote their own Little Ones range!

However, if it is the latter then I, too, will be voting with my purse and going elsewhere for all my shopping. BTW the larger Tescos are now stocking Nature Babycare nappies.

You may well be right. If that's the case, though, I don't understand why Sainsbury Eco Nappies have such low stock levels too.

You'd think they'd understand that nappies are an absoulte essential for working famlies and have an eco choice is even more important. Thanks for the tip re: Tesco. Waitrose sell them too and have recently had a 25% discount.

Yes I have noticed this and am not happy at all as I got some of sainsburys own eco nappies instead and the quality is awful. My 6 month old son twice has had leaky nappies and I dont mean urine. I had to wash all his clothes as they were dirty. I am really disappointed in sainsburys as I always got my nappies not to mention other groceries from them but I will be taking my business elsewhere also.

As a mum of 4 i try to do my best by the environment and wanted an eco disposable to use by side my re-usable nappies. i've always used nature babycare on all my little ones and have been really pleased with the results. I have tried other eco makes such as asda's and recently sainsbury's little ones eco range, i too have found that they leak, you have to change them more often and they sag a lot even when a little wet. When using nature babycare nappies i didn't have to keep as much of a close eye on how full they where because when your out and about you need a nappy you can rely on. If sainsburys get rid of nature babycare nappies then boots will be getting more visits from my growing brood.
