  Have you tried our new 'Wine style guide' yet? 13 Nov 2008

  This week we launched a new “Wine style guide” for all own label wines in store. The new wine labelling system splits all our wines into seven styles - four white styles and 3 red styles. Each appears as a description on coloured discs on the wine bottle for example ‘light and fruity’ reds or ‘crisp and delicate’ whites. They also appear as coloured icons on our Online Groceries website next to own label wines. We've designed this system to help make choosing wine easy and enable you to easily find the wines you like in our stores.

  I am a colleage who works on beers, wines and spirits. Overall i like the idea but i do have a few minor issues, firstly the new system gives no suggestion as to the dryness of the wine as both sweeter and dryer wines can come under the same colour cap. Secondly by grouping wines into such large groups you will find some extremely different wines within each category which may come as a surprise to anyone selecting wine by group alone.
  I know that there is no way to cover every eventuality but overall its not a bad system aside from a lot of our stock is still arriving with old labels, but this will resolve itself.

  Thank you for your comments about the "Wine Style guide" its good to hear how it is working in store.
  
  It was a difficult job to create styles that would be broad enough to cover a range of wines and also mean something to our customers. We conducted a lot of research with customers to decide how to do this and feel the style options we've created accurately represent the styles they are looking for.
  
  We have kept the 1-10 and A-E indicators that help guide customers on sweetness levels on the back label of all our wines. Therefore I hope we've now given our customers two ways to buy wine rather than removed this system.
  
  If you have any more feedback from customers please do let us know because we are interested on how they are finding it. Any comments you have about old stock levels that I can help you with please also feel free to let me know.
