I have a slow cooker and with the weather becoming colder would like to be able to cook stews etc in it. I have not found it easy to find recipes. I am not sure how much liquid I need to leave in the Slow Cooker if I leave it all day for instance while out at work. Any experienced slow cooker users out there?

I love my slow cooker although I am a bit of a cheat - Beef in red wine source goes down a treat in my house - All I do is pop the meat in and cover with tin of red wine source have on high for first hour then turn down to low for the rest of the day - easy peesy

Mash and peas go really well.

I use mine all the time. i find that as a general rule if I make sure ll food is just covered in your stock or sauce it should be ok all day cooking at the low temperature. It is so easy just brown any meat or chicken with veg of your choice and put incooker with whatever sauce or stock you like and thats it. It is very straightforward once you get the hang of it. It may be best to practice a few times when you are not at work to start with. Hope all goes well for you

Thanks, I am hoping that it will be easier than trying to use the automatic oven timer (which I've probably used twice in the last fifteen years and which because I find it complicated is a hassle and I worry about using. This way once I've mastered a few good casserole dishes I am sure I will be adapting others. (I cook far too often on the hob.) Beef and red wine, beef and beer, pork and cider, pork and olives, lamb and chickpeas, chicken and beans ................ I am determined to get to grips with it this winter! I hope it will be a whole new world. It will be wonderful to just have to sort out the spuds/rice/pasta and veg when I get in!

I'm thinkin about gettin a slow cooker, but am a bit wary because I'm more of a "oven" cooker (as in chicken breasts in breadcrumbs, pies etc). Plus my fella's not into "healthy" food so I need to find a compromise!

Please tell me if it's worth me splashing out or not, I don't work so it's not the time thing with me (although hopefully I will be working soon) it's more just the hassle thing!

Slow cokers are great - what could be easlier bung it all in then forget about it for teh rest of the day -

If your husband likes pies - then surly this will love stews!
