Newbie to slow cooker! 01 Apr 2007

    Hello all,

I'm new around here so thought I would ask for some advice.

I got a slow cooker for xmas from mother-in-law, my own mum has never used one so I don't really have any idea what to cook in it. It came with a basic recipe book but I would like to know what you good people on here think, from your personal experiences, is the most successful meal to use a slow cooker for?

    Hi there
I have used a slow cooker for years and they are a god send. My favourite dish is brisket. Buy a nice piece of brisket and seer it in a frying pan. Place it in the slow cooker with the juices from the frying pan and add any veg you like. I like mushrooms, peppers, carrotts etc and add some red wine. You can leave the slow cooker to do its job while you are at work or out for a few hours just make sure you put enough liquid in the slow cooker. I just thicken the liquid with a few gravy granules about 20 mins before serving. Delicious. I prefer to brown my meat in the frying pan as I think it looks a bit anemic personally but you can just put it straight into the slow cooker. I've done chops, steak, sausages and they have all turned out lovely.
