With the smoking ban coming into force in England from 1 July, there's never been a better time to quit smoking for good. If you are planning to give up, or already have done, why not help others and share your secrets to success!

    Happy posting!

I only smoke socially or after a bad day at work so I'm hoping to go it alone on sheer willpower.
Good luck to all those out there giving up too.

Giving up smoking is easy most people have done it hundreds of times - But being forced to give up never works as it is not a personal preference. I gave up smoking over 20 years ago because it was personal. You cannot do it for your family, you cannot do it for your friends and you certainly cannot do it because the nanny state tells you to. It has to be a personal choice and even now I remember how hard and how horrible I was to live with for at least 3 months - so be prepared it isn't easy!

Write down why you are giving up - it helps to have a reason when you are gasping
Don't go to a party the first Saturday after you give up (or do if it is in a restaurant!)
Smoking is a Habit - Coffee and a fag, drink and a fag. Change your habits try another type of drink

You will go through the anti smoking phase thats only because you want one.
I can't stand the smell! - you won't want to be around smokers only cos you want one!
Get over it they are still your mates!

Good Luck if you really want to.

You don't have to give up smoking just because there is a ban. It is just that this may be the best change in circumstances there will be to change your habits. A great chance to grab hold of. Just like a sugar shortage was to me to give up sugar in my tea! When I took that up again after being ill I found that hard to give up again.

I went abroad and didn't have any of the currency and my partner had given up smoking - that was a good chance too. I gave up. I hate the fact that I wash my hair and change my clothes before I go out to the pub only to come back smelling like an ash tray and I have to hang all my clothes outside or wash them all over again. Roll on July 1st.

I gave up on 6th January this year as I wanted to do it by choice and not by force. I am a social outcast now as I keep refusing invitions to the pub as I don't want to be tempted. Glad today has finally arrived. Off out with friends tonight. Still feel the need after a bad day and can't shift this extra 7lbs but feel much better. The only thing I think Tony Blair got right!
