How to save energy in your kitchen

At Sainsbury’s we know that small changes can make a really big difference — especially when it comes to saving energy. That’s why we’ve teamed up with the Energy Saving Trust to bring you these simple tips to help you save on energy in your kitchen and cut your bills too.

1. Only boil the water you need in your kettle.

2. Defrost your food in the fridge overnight instead of heating it up in a pan or oven.

3. Opening the oven door loses a lot of heat.  So if you keep the glass clean, you can check on your meal without needing to open the door.

4. If you need to reheat something, try using the microwave it uses less energy than the oven.

5. Put a lid on your pans when you're cooking,  this will help retain the heat.

6. Use the right size pan on the right sized hob and turn the heat down when the water has boiled.

7. Defrost your freezer regularly, that way it runs more efficiently.

8. If your tap's dripping, fix it.

9. De-scale your kettle, it will boil more quickly.

10. Chop vegetables into smaller pieces so they cook more quickly.
