Sainsbury's - Try something new today

At Sainsbury’s, we take a more 21st century approach to medicine. That’s why we’re always on the look out for commercially savvy graduates with great customer focus to join our pre-registration pharmacy scheme. Over the course of a year, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to become a proficient retail pharmacist. It’s all about learning the skills to make a real impact on our business and making the most of your drive and commitment to help us serve our communities.

Deadline for applications is 31st July 2008

What does the scheme involve?

Our 12-month scheme runs from July and follows the guidelines set down by The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB). We will work with you to ensure that all aspects of your technical, professional training are provided in order to help you become a registered pharmacist.  From the outset, you’ll be assigned a tutor to guide you through the course and your in-store structured training, as well as a mentor who will provide you further support and guidance. You’ll also benefit from training days and the support of the pharmacy operations and training teams.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for people who combine an astute commercial outlook with a real passion for community pharmacy. In short, we’re looking for the leaders of the future. People who want to make a difference and drive our business forward.

What skills will you develop?

We’ll do much more than simply help you pass your registration exam. As well as covering all areas of your technical development, our structured scheme will also begin your professional and management training – both in store and off site.

Rewards and benefits

In return for your hard work, you can look forward to all the support you need to become a qualified Pharmacist. As our scheme is run in conjunction with the National Pharmacy Association, it also includes both off-site training days and a mock exam. What’s more, you’ll get a starting salary of £21.5k and 22 days’ holiday.

Meet some of our people

Meera Kataria, Pharmacy Manager, Enfield
“For me, one of the best things about working at a Sainsbury’s Pharmacy is the support I get. There’s a genuine family atmosphere here and it’s been an enormous help. When I was starting out, I was in the same position as all the other pre-registration students and we all made a real effort to support each other.  These days, I’m a Pharmacy Manager but it’ still good to know I can rely on the help and support of those around me – whether it comes from Area Managers or colleagues I manage in the Enfield Pharmacy.

“I was impressed with what Sainsbury’s had to offer right from the outset. Everything from the information given about the scheme to the interview process itself convinced me I was making the right decision. It was all so thorough and professional. I started out in the Chadwell Heath store and learned so much over the course of this first year. My manager took a truly holistic approach to my training. So instead of just telling me how to pass my exam, I was taught a range of valuable skills that have helped me to become a well-rounded retail Pharmacist.”

Brij Valla, Pharmacy Manager, Beckton
“I think the appeal of retail pharmacy lies in being able to meet and help so many different people. Sainsbury’s has put a lot of thought and effort into how they can serve their communities and, personally, I get a lot of satisfaction out of this. To be honest, you can’t do this job unless you’re a people person. They help make the job what it is – challenging, rewarding and certainly never boring.

“It’s a big plus if you can be flexible too. I was keen to move around when I was first starting out so I was able to take advantage of different opportunities. Every store will have its own challenges and tackling these has helped me to develop quickly. Right now, I’m managing the Pharmacy at the Beckton store. I get a great deal of senior level contact, so my ideas and opinions are taken seriously. It’s great to be so involved and to be respected and appreciated too.”
