Our basics eggs are currently sourced from farms where the hens are kept in cages under carefully managed conditions.

Our free-range eggs are from hens free to roam outdoors during daylight hours, which allows them to express a wide range of natural behaviours, such as foraging.

Sainsbury's Taste the difference free-range eggs
Our Taste the difference free-range eggs come from hens that can roam outdoors in the daytime with the freedom to exhibit many natural behaviours. They are also fed a special diet containing marigold, which gives a golden-coloured yolk.
The farms are all inspected to RSPCA welfare standards and approved by Freedom Food.
Sainsbury’s free-range woodland eggs
These eggs come from hens that can roam outdoors in pastures under the shade and protection of trees, which encourages them to display their natural jungle fowl behaviour. The eggs are from farms certified by Freedom Food and The Woodland Federation.
The farms are all inspected to RSPCA welfare standards and approved by Freedom Food.
We pay a 2p premium per dozen eggs to the farmer to support this type of farming.
Sainsbury’s SO organic free-range eggs
Sainsbury’s SO organic eggs come from hens free to roam outdoors during daylight hours in an organic field. They’re fed an organic diet supplemented by food they obtain naturally.
The farms are certified by Freedom Food and Organic Farmers & Growers.
Sainsbury’s SO organic free-range woodland eggs
These are from hens that roam during the day in organic pastures in the shelter of trees – this encourages their natural jungle fowl behaviour. They’re fed an organic diet, supplemented by food they obtain naturally from the fields. The eggs are certified by Freedom Food, Organic Farmers & Growers and The Woodland Federation.
We pay a 2p premium per dozen eggs to the farmer to support this type of farming.
