Bagged salads given the best shower ever!
Sainsbury's is set to become the first retailer to wash and rinse all its own-label bagged salad in natural spring water.
Bagged salads are washed prior to packing, in order to remove soil, stones and to ensure they are safe to eat. The move to natural spring water follows feedback from customers that showed they preferred foods to be prepared simply and naturally.
Cathy Port, Sainsbury's Produce Manager says: "Prepared salads are a very convenient way to help people achieve their 5-a-day target. This move towards 100% spring water, is a complete first for any major supermarket."
"To be able to use pure spring water is a big step for us, as we have over 30 different own label bagged salads on offer. We are very pleased to be able to set such a high standard with as much as fifty percent washed in spring water at this initial stage."
This will be extended across the entire own label bagged range over the next 12-18 months.
