Supporting British farmers

Farmers receives 5p more than for standard milk
For farmers to convert from conventional to organic farming, they must undertake a rigorous process. For dairy farmers this takes at least 2 years and the costs are high which prevent many from starting.  Sainsbury's is helping farmers who want to convert to organic by launching a new milk called 'Farm Promise'.

This milk, which is not organic, comes from a farm being supported by you and Sainsbury’s.  For every pack that you buy, the farmer receives 5p more than for standard milk, which covers all their costs during this process.  This will enable Sainsbury’s to continue to bring you British organic milk for years to come.

“Thanks to Sainsbury’s support, we are have now completed our first year under the Soil Association guidelines and working towards our full accreditation in a years time.  Without this support, the costs we have incurred to achieving the accreditation, would have made it impossible even to have considered converting”

Roger Thompson, Riverdale Farm.

Sainsbury’s is the first supermarket to work directly with farmers to encourage them to undertake the change to organic farming. Sainsbury’s are already committed to supporting British organic farming - 100% of our Sainsbury’s SO organic milk, eggs, yogurts, poultry, pork and beef are sourced from Britain.

Supporting British farmers to go organic
5p from Sainsbury’s Farm Promise Semi-Skimmed milk will be given to help British farmers convert to organic farming.  In selected stores Sainsbury's Farm Promise milk will be replacing Sainsbury's Non-GM Feed Select Farm Milk.  Farm Promise milk is also produced from cows fed on a non-GM diet.  When you buy this milk you will also be contributing towards increasing the number of UK organic dairy farmers.

Sainsbury’s is committed in offering you a choice of milk. Therefore in addition to Sainsbury’s Farm Promise milk we also sell fresh milk in all our stores and a range of Sainsbury’s SO organic Milk, Sainsbury's Taste the difference Jersey milk and goat’s milk.
