Keeping refreshed
Keeping yourself healthy and avoid becoming dehydrated - you should be drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water or other fluids every day, that’s the equivalent of 1.2 litres.
To check if you’re drinking enough water, try pinching the back of your hand whilst resting it on a flat surface. When you release the pinch, the skin should snap back into place and if it is slow in doing this, you’re probably dehydrated.
Why not try these hydrating ideas…
- If you out and about try carrying a small bottle of water with you
- If you’re not used to drinking water on a regular basis then try replacing just one of your drinks like tea or coffee with water and start increase your intake as the days go by
- Try keeping a bottle of water in the fridge, it feels more refreshing to drink really cold water
- Replace one of your cups of tea of coffee with hot water and a slice of lemon. It’s a great way to warm up during the cooler months as well as great way to kick start your day
- If you drink fizzy drinks then try mixing fresh fruit juice with chilled sparkling water for a healthier way to increase your fluid intake
- Why not try making a milkshake using semi-skimmed milk adding some pureed strawberries or raspberries, for an easy way to increase fluid and fruit intake
- Try drinking more milk as it ‘s nutritious choice, especially for children
- When you are eating out always ask for a jug of water to go with your meal
- Placing a jug of water on the family table at meal times and encourage smaller children to drink plenty of water with their meals.
Remember:
- In hot weather or if you are doing exercise you’ll need to drink more water to prevent becoming dehydrated
- The healthiest drinking choice is water. Water is calorie free, contains no sugars and will quench your thirst
- Fruit juices are a good choice to drink with your meal as it also helps your body to absorb iron.
