When is the right time to make a pie? Not until the leaves start falling from the trees, according to Nigel Slater. Frankly, I could eat the steak and kidney masterpiece on our cover any time of the year, but I take his point. The upside of the chilly days ahead is the chance to indulge in cockle-warming comfort food.
