Sainsbury's - Try something new today

Fairtrade Project

The Sainsbury's Fairtrade Project was launched in October 2007 to find the student or graduate with the savviest approach to Fairtrade. From all the applications received, Aimee Corbett, a graduate from Leeds University, impressed the judges and won a trip to St Lucia, to spend time with the growers of our Fairtrade Bananas.

If this has wet your appetite for Fairtrade, then why not get involved in the Sainsbury's Fairtrade Project 2009.

Sainsbury's is the biggest retailer of Fairtrade products in the UK and recently set up the Sainsbury's Fairtrade Development Fund, investing over £1million to support a number of projects over four years.

Sainsbury's commitment to selling 100% Fairtrade bananas will deliver around £4 million in Fairtrade premiums to the banana growers and their communities. Farmers are using some of the premium for environmental training and also to build pre-schools, supply other schools with computers and other equipment, and to provide medical assistance to members.

If you are interested in learning more about Sainsbury's commitment to Fairtrade, here's your chance to experience a unique trip and visit one of our Fairtrade producer partners around the world. See for yourself the effect and importance of Fairtrade on the ground.
