Supply Chain
Applications for the 2008 intake are now closed. To apply for the 2009 graduate and placement opportunities, please revisit the site on 4th August 2008 or email grad.recruitment@sainsburys.co.uk to register your interest.
What does the scheme involve?
Our supply chain ensures products reach stores on time, in excellent condition and at a competitive cost. Changes in weather, economic upheaval, traffic jams – many factors affect the flow of products, so this is a fast-moving environment where there’s never a predictable day.
The scheme is 18 months long and covers many elements of this complex area of the business. You’ll spend time in a distribution centre understanding the sharp end of our supply chain operation. There will be a strong focus on environmental issues. A placement in our London Store Support Centre provides an overview of areas of the supply chain such as forecasting and supplier liaison.
Retail is at the heart of what we do, so this scheme includes a placement of three months in store. This will help you to see how issues such as product availability affect our customers and will help you understand the complexities involved in getting a product from supplier to customer.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for people with a passion for retail, service and detail. You’ll be highly motivated, resilient and adaptable, to deliver across the varied working environments that exist along different points of the supply chain.
And work won’t always be nine to five: our supply chain is a 24/7 operation. You’ll also have to be flexible enough to work alongside a wide range of people, from senior management and trade union officials through to warehouse colleagues. We will also require a minimum 2.2 or above, ideally in a relevant supply chain, retail or business management degree.
What skills will you develop?
You’ll develop a good understanding of the operational and managerial issues surrounding the supply chain. Coupled with the leadership skills you’ll learn (we’re looking for the supply chain leaders of the future), this scheme represents an exciting head start into your career.
