Sainsbury's is the leading Fairtrade retailer in the UK; more than 40% of the country's Fairtrade bananas pass through our tills. And our commitment doesn't stop at the vegetable aisle. Every one of the 22 million hot drinks sold in our 230 in-store cafés comes from a Fairtrade supplier.

Alexandra Williams is in the thick of the Customer and Marketing Scheme, training to become a marketer of the future. She's part of a team which ensures that when we do commit to an idea - whether it's Fairtrade or healthy eating - our customers and potential customers know all about it.

“I'm working with the Own Brand team in our London Store Support Centre at the moment and I love it! It might sound clichéd but it's true: every day is different. I could be planning a huge in-store event, discussing a leaflet concept with one of our agencies or working with one of our product technologists.

Because part of my job is to get the right message into magazine editorials about a new product, I have to know exactly what makes it different or special, so I get invited to lots of tasting sessions and try delicious new products. And the great thing is I get to see the results of all my hard work in the national press, in magazines and in our stores.”

“But this is eclipsed by one thing. There can't be another job in which Jamie Oliver cooks for you and it's still called work.”
