Collecting points

How many Nectar points can I earn at Sainsbury's?
 

You can earn:

  • 2 Nectar points for every £1 you spend instore for England and Wales* (rates vary in Scotland) 
  • 1 Nectar point for every litre of fuel purchased in Sainsbury's fuel stations.

*Nectar points are only applicable on actual spend, after any applicable discounts.  Points are not available on a limited range of Sainsbury's products and services such as; saving stamps, car parking tickets, vending machines, cashback, postage stamps, gift vouchers, baby milk products, lottery tickets, tobacco kiosk and proprietary medicine. Nectar points can't be collected from Sainsbury's concession and franchises.

Where can I earn Nectar points?

Apart from Sainsbury’s, you can earn points at a huge range of shops and services.  You can find a full list here.

Earn 2 Nectar points for every £1 you spend instore (exclusions apply).
Earn 1 Nectar point for every litre of fuel purchased at Sainsbury's petrol stations.
Earn up to 4 points for every £1 spent when you use both the Nectar Credit Card and your Nectar loyalty card at participating Nectar sponsors. Earn an additional 1 point for almost every £1 spent else where no matter where you shop.
Earn up to 2 points for every £1 when you shop a Nectar eStores such as; iTunes, Amazon, ebay and many more. For a full list of Nectar eStores click here.

 
 
When can I start earning points?
You’ll start earning points as soon as you receive your Nectar card.  Visit nectar.com to add friends or family to your account, and earn points even faster.

I didn’t have my Nectar Card with me in store — can I still claim the points?
Sainsbury’s will credit the missing points if you visit the store where you made the purchase within 14 days of the purchase date. Just take your till receipt and Nectar Card.

Do I need to register my Nectar account anywhere else?

To earn points with any of these companies, you’ll have to register separately.

TalkTalk
To earn points with TalkTalk, simply call 0870 444 1820 and register your card with one of their Nectar support team.

American Express
Apply for a Nectar Credit Card with American Express and earn even more points on your shopping.  Find out more at americanexpress/nectar.

Spending points

Can I use my Nectar points in any Sainsbury’s store?
Yes — shop in any Sainsbury’s and swipe your Nectar Card there, and you’ll be able to use points straight from your card on your next visit.  To keep using your points at this store, shop there at least once every 12 months. If you haven’t visited a store for over 12 months, swipe your Nectar Card there next time you shop.  Your points will be available to use 48 hours later.

Can I still get Nectar vouchers at Sainsbury's?

 

Sorry, you will no longer be able to change your Nectar points into Nectar vouchers at our stores.  Instead just call Nectar on 0844 811 0 811 or order them online at nectar.com and they'll be posted out to you within 10 days.

  Do I need to swap my points for vouchers in order to use them?
 

For a lot of rewards, including at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Blockbuster and Tussauds attractions, you can now use your points straight from your Nectar Card.  And you can use your points online for some rewards, for instance with CD WOW! and ebookers.  For other rewards, you’ll need to order Nectar vouchers from nectar.com or by calling Nectar on 0844 811 0 811 and they’ll be posted to you.

Please note – you can no longer get vouchers from Sainsbury’s stores.

  Can I earn at Sainsbury's online grocery shopping - and is it possible to spend them online?
You can earn 2 points per £1 spent online (rate vary in Scotland) - but don’t forget to register your Nectar Card when you shop. At the moment, you can’t use your points against your shopping online with Sainsbury’s.

How can I check the balance of my Nectar account?

Your till receipt from any Sainsbury’s store you’ve shopped at with your Nectar card in the last 12 months will show the opening points balance on your account plus the points earned on your current shop and the closing balance.

Till receipts from other stores will only show the points earned on the current transaction.

Nectar balances are updated every 72 hours, so recent transactions may not be included.  You can also check your balance at nectar.com.

What should I do if I lose my Nectar Card(s)?
If you lose your card, report it immediately to the Nectar Helpline on 0844 811 0 811, between 8am–8pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am–5pm on Saturday and Sunday.  For further queries, please visit nectar.com or call Nectar on 0844 811 0 811.  Calls are charged at national rate and may be recorded for quality, training, audit and security purposes.

  Why do I have to register?
You need to register before you can redeem points and claim rewards.  You can do this by calling the Nectar helpline on 0844 811 0 811 or visiting nectar.com.

How long does it take to register?
This takes 24 hours if you’ve registered online and up to two weeks if you’ve sent your form by post. Once this is complete, you’re ready to start claiming rewards.

Why did my Sainsbury’s till receipt show my Nectar points balance as zero?

This could happen for a number of reasons:

- Has your Nectar account been registered?  This could take up to 28 days from receipt of the registration form.

- Registration may be delayed if there is any missing information on your registration form - call 0844 811 0 811 or visit nectar.com to check.

- Check you’ve used your Nectar Card at least once at this Sainsbury’s store in the last 12 months.

- Have you moved and not given Nectar your latest address?

I’ve heard that there is now a new Nectar key tag available. How can I get one?
This is a smaller, more convenient version of your Nectar Card to go on your keyring.  To order one, contact Nectar on 0844 811 0 811 or at nectar.com.

I handed in a coupon — why didn’t the bonus points appear on my Sainsbury’s till receipt?
From time to time, we may send you coupons which you can hand in at the checkout to earn bonus Nectar points.  These points won’t show up on your receipt straight away, as it takes up to 28 days for them to be allocated to your Nectar account.
