Every household produces waste - from left-over food to bottles, cans and cardboard to be recycled.
Use this guide to help you pick the right bin for the job.
Bin capacity is measured in Litres, referring to the maximum volume of waste that can be stored inside.
Small, open-topped bins are usually made from metal, wicker weave or plastic. Designed for dry waste such as envelopes, clothes tags and cotton wool, not for waste that will decompose.
Pop open when pressure is applied to the lid, or swing open when pushed. Made of easy-clean materials for hygiene.
Require operation via a foot pedal, leaving both hands free to put waste inside.
Are opened by applying pressure to a swinging lid. Can get dirty quickly as the lid needs to be touched in order to be opened.
It is environmentally responsible, and in some areas compulsory, to recycle glass, food, plastic, metal and paper. Usually feature air-tight lids, and handles for easy transportation to your nearest recycling centre or kerbside. Made of robust heavy plastic to withstand broken glass, cans and spills. Often come in duo or trio combinations - with different sections used to recycle different materials.
IMPORTANT: To dispose of glass that isn't recyclable, wrap it in paper first to prevent injury. Batteries and used pressure canisters must be disposed of separately. Always follow the advice on battery and canister packaging for specific safety instructions.
