You'll usually touch and interact with furniture on a daily basis. As a result, it has to meet your needs - and your expectations - so you'll love having it around.
Because the right furniture can turn a house into a home, Sainsbury's has put together this guide to help you find the perfect answer to your needs.
Our sofas come in four widths and will comfortably seat one to four people:
Also worth considering is how you like to sit. Do you like to sit formally, nestle in cushions or recline? Different shaped sofas lend themselves to different seating preferences.
Our dining tables come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and will comfortably seat between 4 and 8 people, depending on whether they’re fully extended or not.
When choosing a new suite, always bear in mind the style and size of the room being furnished. High back sofas and dining chairs look great in period houses with high ceilings.
Low-back furniture can create a feeling of space in a small room, and modular furniture and corner suites work well in modern schemes and open-plan rooms.
From footstools to large sofas, Sainsbury's has it - but first, measure the space you have available and decide what furniture will fit. Will your dining table have enough space for people to push out their chairs? Is there room against that wall for a sideboard?
Furniture shouldn’t overpower the room. If in doubt, try making a newspaper template of the area that will be covered by the new furniture.
So that we can deliver the piece, please check and double check that it will fit through your front door. To enable you to do this we supply the width, depth and height of all our furniture and you will find this information on the product detail pages.
Make sure that there’s room to manoeuvre around obstacles like radiators, low ceilings and stairs. If you have a narrow hallway make sure there is room for the furniture to be turned into the room. If you live in an upstairs flat please check how wide the lift, stairs or hallway are in relation to the item to be delivered. Please measure up before placing your order.
Worth considering is the amount of maintenance a suite of furniture needs and how easy it is to keep clean, especially if you have children or pets.
Sofas with loose backs and feather cushions will need a daily plump, while sofas with loose covers just need the covers straightened. Leather sofas, those with firm fillings or attached back cushions, will require very little attention.
Dining chairs and tables benefit from occasional wipe-downs, and cushioned seats may need to be vacuumed. Other dining and bedroom furniture will need dusting and the occasional polish. Non-cedar-lined wardrobes may need extra attention to keep pests like moths at bay.

Fabric: offers an incredible choice of colours, finishes and patterns. All our ranges are fully tested to British General domestic standards and have a stain resistant finish (excluding Mowbray sofa).
Leather: is fashionable and robust - ideal for family life. It wears well and unless you choose a highly treated finish, it will develop an attractive patina with age. It’s easy to clean, is non-allergenic, and most spills can simply be wiped away. To keep it looking its best, don't position it directly in front of a radiator or fire, and note that it can fade from prolonged exposure to sunlight. See the Leather icon on the right-hand side.
Leather comes in different grades. Some leathers retain the unique variations of natural hide, distinguishing them from man-made substitutes. Others are treated to give a more uniform appearance and colour. Generally, the softer the leather the higher the grade.
Semi Aniline: this type of leather retains some of the unique features and characteristics of the animal hide. Small amounts of pigment in the surface-coating offer some degree of protection, but expect some shade variation.
Pigmented and corrected: imperfections are removed by buffing the outer surface, then modern techniques are used to emboss the leather's surface. Available in many colours, it's more uniform in appearance and is coated for durability.
Fibre wrap: layers of hollow fibre give a softer look and feel to the sofa or chair. Cushions need to be plumped and turned occasionally.
Hollow fibre: is hypoallergenic and gives furniture a softer more relaxed feel. It’s light and resilient and needs very little maintenance other than an occasional plump.
Foam: low maintenance and initially very firm, foam furniture softens with use and will become 20% softer over the first two months of use, after which it shouldn’t soften any more. It gives a tailored appearance and the cushions will only need to be turned occasionally to prevent wear and tear.
