Tasty Porridge recipe 24 Oct 2006

Generally speaking I can't stand porridge, but I know that its the healthiest breakfast that will keep me full up until lunchtime, especially now the cold weather has started.

Does anyone have a good tasty recipe - normally porridge is slimey and tasteless and the only way to make it edible is to add loads of sugar and then not very healthy.

    Any good ideas anyone?

You could try it the Scottish way, with salt.

Otherwise, porridge is the basis for muesli, it can be eaten without being cooked. I usually eat porridge uncooked & cold with semi-skimmed milk. What about adding some fresh fruit to it? Banana, strawberries, blueberries etc.

I add more milk than the recipe asks for as I don't like it stodgy.
I also add dried fruit to mine, cranberries are great, they add a nice touch of sweetness (and I have a real sweet tooth). There's a huge choice of dried fruits in the supermarkets now: mango, apples, pineapple and peaches to name a few, its not all about apricots and plums (which do get boring, and thats even if you liked them in the first place)

    Hiya Mango
    I loveeeeeeeee Porridge.
I have a great recipe for it.
    45 grams of porridge oats.
    1/2 pint skimmed milk
and water if needed see how it goes.
Then grate in a peeled desert apple and cinnamon (optional) Then cook in pan keep stirring.
Serve with a nice blob of low fat greek yogurt or ordinary low fat yogurt.
    Its lovely and so filling.
    Hope this helps Mango.

HI! I no its not very healthy, but...
After making porridge with milk, add a teaspoon of chocolate spread! You can use any kind, it makes it really sweet without any added sugar! And, if you are in a healthy mood, why not add some chopped banana?
    hope i helped
