You will need

  • 25g butter
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2-3 large onions finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcester sauce
  • 2 sprigs of thyme
  • ½ pot Onken Natural Yogurt
  • 150g cream cheese

Step by step guide to making French onion dip

  1. In a large heavy based saucepan heat the oil and butter together over a medium heat.
  2. Add the onions and cook for around 5 minutes, keep stirring so they don’t stick.
  3. Add the celery salt and a good grind of pepper, the Worcester sauce, garlic and thyme sprigs and cook for around 20 minutes, or until the onions caramelise.
  4. Meanwhile mix together the yogurt and cream cheese in a bowl.
  5. When the onions are browned and cooked, discard the thyme sprigs and mix the onions into the yogurt.
  6. Check the seasoning and adjust if needed. Serve with crackers or crisps.
