You will need

  • 8 frozen thick pork sausages
  • 950g potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 100ml milk
  • 2 red onions, peeled and finely sliced
  • A knob of butter
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • ½ beef stock cube, made up to 500ml with hot water
  • 400g frozen green beans

Step by step guide to making Bangers and mash with onion gravy

  1. Grill the frozen sausages, following pack instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, simmer the potatoes in water for 15-20 minutes, until soft, then drain and mash with the milk.
  3. Fry the red onions in the knob of butter over a medium heat for 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and the 500ml stock (made using the beef stock cube), and simmer for a further 5 minutes.
  4. Cook the frozen green beans in lightly boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Drain and serve immediately with the sausages, mash and onion gravy.

Make it veggie: Try swapping the sausages for 300g Linda McCartney original sausages. Swap the beef stock cube for a vegetable stock cube when making the gravy.
