Chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce

This easy recipe uses Heinz mushroom soup to make a rich sauce for the chicken.

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, peeled and diced
  • 250g button mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 chicken breasts, diced
  • 2 x 400g cans Heinz Cream of Mushroom soup
  • 4 tablespoons half fat crème fraîche
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Step by step guide to making Chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce

  1. In a deep saucepan add the oil and fry the onions for a few minutes over a high heat, then add the sliced mushrooms and chicken. Continue to fry until the meat is browned all over. 
  2. Turn the heat down to medium and continue to cook the chicken for a further 10 minutes, stirring regularly to prevent sticking.
  3. Add the Heinz Cream of Mushroom soup and simmer for 5 minutes before adding the crème fraîche. Simmer for a final 10 minutes.
  4. Season with pepper to taste and serve with rice and some steamed green vegetables for a perfect family meal.

Cook's tip: Add a splash of brandy with the crème fraîche for an extra rich sauce, or try using whole chicken breast for a more substantial meal.
