Step by step guide to making Cheese star biscuits

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, fan 160°C, gas mark 4. Line 2 baking trays with baking parchment.
  2. Place the flour in a large bowl and rub in the butter using your fingertips, until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the Cheddar and the beaten egg and mix together with a wooden spoon until well combined.
  3. Sprinkle a little flour onto a work surface and then roll out the dough. Using a small star-shaped cutter, cut stars from the dough then lift them with a spatula onto the baking sheets, leaving a little space between the biscuits so they can spread out.
  4. Bake for 10-12 minutes until just golden. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on the baking sheets for a couple of minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Cook's tip: Sainsbury's Taste the Difference chutney is the perfect partner to these homemade cheese biscuits, so why not give both as a tasty giftset? The biscuits look really cute presented in empty jam jars.

You can buy star biscuit cutters from our Sainsbury's baking range.
