We are proud supporters of Fairtrade and have been selling Fairtrade licensed products since 1994.
In 2014/15 our Fairtrade sales increased to £293 million.
Buy great products with a clear conscience
Over the past 23 years we’ve not only increased the number of Fairtrade brands that we support, by selling their products, but have also converted hundreds of Sainsbury's Own Brand products to Fairtrade.
This has made a huge impact on the lives of thousands of individual producers around the world. Fairtrade provides farmers with a fair price for their products, money to spend within their local communities, decent working conditions and a more secure future.
Fairtrade Bananas
We sell an incredible 650 million Fairtrade bananas a year, almost as many as all of the other major supermarkets put together. That’s enough bananas to go round the world 3 times!
These bananas generate a Fairtrade Premium of over £4m which farming communities in Dominican Republic, Colombia, St. Lucia and Ghana invest in a better future.
Fairtrade Flowers
As well as being the UK’s largest retailer of Fairtrade flowers, all our rose bunches from Kenya have been Fairtrade since 2007.
