History: McGuigan Wines was established to celebrate the culmination of 3 generations of wine growing by the McGuigan family. Founder Brian McGuigan adopted the central symbol of the family crest, the lion, to reflect inspiration & the McGuigan's enduring spirit & passion for producing great quality Australian wine. Those proud family traditions are still at the heart of McGuigan winemaking values today. IWSC Winemaker of the Year-2009/'11/'12/'16 & IWC White Winemaker of the Year-2009/'12/'13/''19

Regional information: Fruit was carefully selected from various regions to balance style & flavour profile of the wine. The climate is hot with high evaporation rates & generally low rainfall making irrigation essential. The climate is also continental resulting in long sunny days & noticeably cooler nights. Modern viticultural & winemaking techniques mean that the climate can be seen as one of the region's strengths.

Vinification: The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed to varying sizes & styles of red fermenters where the fruit was fermented on oak at cooler temperatures of 18 - 22oC for 5 - 7 days. Fermenting at cooler temperatures allows the fruit flavours to be nurtured and enables retention of varietal characteristics. Post fermentation the majority of the wine is matured in stainless steel tanks with a percentage of the wine transferred onto French & American Oak.

Ratings summary

Delicious but…. TrickyThis delicious and very rounded smooth warm finish is a delightful wine. Hints of fresh red fruits but not at all acidic and not sweet - so a pretty good balance. Only gripe is reduced size ( was previously 3 bottle equivalent ) BUT BIGGEST GRIPE: no longer straightforward to set up tap, first i struggle to pull through the tap then when that is done it is really nail breaking to get rid of the safety lugs (to allow the tap to work) and it was not even clear what needed to be removed. I eventually took courage but i (still) end up with a puddle every time. Why did it change? it is very strong plastic but hardly enough of a tab to get hold of with fingers to bend up as previously) nowthey simply do not want to be removed. (A knife is dangerous but i have had to resort to one.)

AvoidAs a long time drinker of McGigan Blacl Label by the bottle saw this and thought this would be great for a trip away. On opening the contents were undrinkable. Unfortunately hadn’t kept my receipt to enable return to Sainsbury’s so wrote to McGiugan. 2 emails no acknowledgment or reply. Avoid or keep your receipt handy
