Beta-glucan is a soluble fibre found in oats and some other foods. Regular consumption of beta-glucan as part of a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle can contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Each serving (40g) contains one third (Ig) of the 3g of beta-glucan suggested per day to help maintain normal cholesterol levels. Jumbo Oats Our Organic Jumbo Oats are a larger, thicker oat ideally suited for preparation as a delicious porridge with more bite, or as an ingredient in muesli or cooking. Preparation and Safety

Cooking instructions: Microwave

(Serves 1) Stir 1/2 cup (40g) of Flahavan's Organic Jumbo Oats with one cup (220ml) of cold water/milk in a deep bowl allowing over an inch at the top of the bowl for the oats to cook. Microwave on high for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes, stir and serve. This is based on a 900W microwave. Cooking times will vary according to wattage. As with any hot product please be careful.

Cooking instructions: Hob

(Serves 2) Stir one cup (80g) of Flahavan's Organic Jumbo Oats into 2 1/2 cups (550ml) of cold water/milk. Bring to the boil and simmer of 5 minutes stirring continuously.

Best porridge oatsWe like the chunkier texture of these jumbo oats which make an excellent thick porridge and have it for breakfast most days. Good with soya milk, or honey and cinnamon. Not the cheapest, but the best quality.

What husks?I always buy these oats and just noticed the 3+star review for them and was intrigued. I have never been aware of any husks in my porridge. Do I have jaws and teeth of steel that can chomp through anything or are these other humans of a more delicate type than me?Who knows, but I think these oats are the best and get very cross if my husband buys different.

Husks galoreIt is clear Flahavans have some QC issues.

I have always bought this brand of oats but I'll avoid once my current supply is finished. I tend to make protein heavy Overnight Oats with these but for some time now I have been a lot of husks.

The small jar of oats I am having right now has had 2 hard shells in my first two spoons alone. Almost broke a tooth so I now have to eat very slowly. As I write this I have 8 husks on a saucer beside me. Not really acceptable at all.
