Preparation and Safety

Cooking instructions: Oven cook

1 Open Caution: Take care when opening and disposing of tins. Remove lid using a robust manual can opener, we highly recommend both the Brabantia Essential Line and OXO Good Grips openers. Place opened can on a baking tray... 2 Cook Pop in the centre of a pre-heated oven (200℃ / Fan 180℃ / Gas mark 6). Bake for 30 minutes or until crust has risen and is golden brown. All appliances vary, these are guidelines only. Ensure product is piping hot before serving.

Impossible to openI tried opening this tinned pie with the strongest tin opener I had - a Brabantia as recommended. No success. This has now defeated and snapped the handle of a tin opener that has done me sterling service over a couple of decades. I tried with lesser tin openers, but all that happened was a crimped edge on the tin. I was also worried that even if I opened the pie that there may be metal swarf in the remnants. Impossible to open with a lot of collateral damage, don't buy.

Childhood favouriteFray Bentos pies were always a childhood favourite of mine, and it's probably the only product that not only is as you remember it was, but possibly even better! The quality of the meat has remained consistent throughout the years, with no compromise on the taste, unlike so many other products! A good go-to store cupboard necessity, too.

New recipe certainly hits the spot!Lots of lovely minced beef in a tasty gravy and that lovely crispy pie crust with the soggy bottom that we all know and love!
All the reviews on here are old and pre-new recipe so it looks like they have listened and made minced beef Fray Bentos great again, give them a try, you wont be disappointed :).

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.I used to love these and decided on a whim to try one again. It's got to be forty years at least since I last ate one. Whether it's me or the quality of this product which has changed I'm not sure but I can't see me trying another one again in this lifetime. It was almost tasteless and contained no real meat I could discern, just gravy and the crust. Awful really.

Like Dog FoodAbsolutely disgusting. The puff pastry was like chewing plastic. The filling of mince beef and onion wasnt enough to feed a mouse. The filling tasted of nothing ......no taste unless you smothered it in HP Sauce. Im really surprised that this is classed as an edible dinner. Most of it went in the bin. I wouldnt even allow my dog to eat it.

Absolutely disgustingThe pie was cooked as instructed but the pastry came out a soggy mess. There was no meat at all, just a minimum amount of gluey gravy. I had thought Fray Bentos meant quality tinned food but now I know better. What a disappointment- don't waste your money!
