History: "Yealands opened the doors to their winery on 08.08.08, with a vision to become one of the world's most sustainable wineries. Seaview Vineyard, the home of Yealands Wines, was once a rugged, rolling stretch of pastoral land, that was thought to be too wild, windswept and undulating for growing grapes. Today, Seaview is one of the most dramatic and exciting vineyards in Marlborough, its folded landscape creates micro climates that provide thrilling variety across range of varietals."
Regional information: Yealands' Seaview Vineyard, located in Marlborough's Awatere Valley, is one of New Zealand's most coastal vineyard sites. The region is characterised by a combination of high sunshine hours, strong offshore winds, cool nights, and low rainfall, creating a challenging growing environment. These conditions naturally limit berry size, resulting in smaller, thicker-skinned grapes with concentrated flavour and structure.
Vinification: Fruit from Seaview Vineyard was picked and field-destemmed, before being held on skins in the press for 24 hours to build flavour and structure. After gentle pressing, the juice was cold settled for 72 hours and then racked clean ahead of fermentation. A mix of stainless steel and seasoned oak was used, with carefully selected yeast strains to capture purity of fruit while adding subtle complexity. Lees stirring techniques to build texture.
