Sainsbury's Medium Free Range Fresh British Norfolk Black Whole Turkey, Taste the Difference 4-5.99kg

Cooking instructions: Oven

Oven cook from chilled. If freezing at home, defrost thoroughly before cooking. Before cooking: Leave the turkey out of the fridge to temper for one hour before cooking. Refer to the weight label on the front of the bag for the specific roasting time. Preheat oven. Remove all packaging. Remove the neck and giblet pack from the main body cavity. Place the turkey in a deep sided ovenproof roasting tin. Measure out 250ml of water (chicken or turkey stock can be used instead) and pour into the roasting tin around the turkey. Rub oil or melted butter all over the skin and season with salt and pepper (optional). Cover the turkey with foil and place in the centre of the preheated oven. During cooking: Spoon the juices in the bottom of the roasting tin over the turkey to baste every 30 minutes, rotate the tray and return to the oven. Remove the foil 45 minutes before the end of the cooking time, baste and return to the oven to allow the skin to become golden brown. After cooking: Check food is piping hot throughout, all juices run clear and no pink colour remains. Cover with foil and allow to rest for 30 minutes before carving. To carve, remove the whole breast in one piece and slice. All cooking appliances vary. This is a guide only. Oven cook from chilled 190°C / Fan 160°C / Gas 5 20 mins per kg + 60 mins
