The Undisputed King of the Salad Drawer
Buying a pre-packaged iceberg lettuce is usually a high-stakes culinary gamble. Half the time you unwrap it, it looks like it’s gone three rounds in a boxing ring, sporting a sad, bruised, rusty-brown complexion. But today, Sainsbury’s absolutely delivered a masterclass with this one.
First and foremost: there was absolutely no browning whatsoever. I peeled back the outer leaf, and it was a flawless, pristine dome of pale green perfection. It looked like it belonged in a commercial.
The freshness was immediately obvious. It didn't have that exhausted, deflated look that supermarket greens so often suffer from. It felt heavy, tightly packed, and structurally sound—like a vegetable that actually enjoyed growing.
When it came to the prep, cutting into this thing was pure ASMR. The crispness and texture were both completely perfect. It didn't just slice; it practically shattered under the knife. Every single bite delivered that glorious, loud, structural crunch that a proper iceberg lettuce is supposed to have. No soggy, rubbery leaves here—just pure, satisfying texture that elevates a basic sandwich into a gourmet experience.
What really blew me away, though, was the hydration. This lettuce was incredibly juicy and refreshing. It felt like eating a solid block of crisp, pure mountain water. In a world of dry, sad garnishes, this was the ultimate hydration hero.
Sainsbury's has completely nailed it. If you want a lettuce that actually lives up to the dream of a crisp summer salad, this is the one to grab.
