History: The Gabb family has been involved in the wine industry for over 46 years. Since establishing Gabb Family Wines in 1996, they have focused on producing quality South African wines with a strong commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. The business also prioritises conservation through dedicated protected areas and supports the local community of Sir Lowry's Pass Village, located near the vineyards.
Regional information: The vineyards are located in the Western Cape wine region, on north face slopes. The soil is well drained deep sandy soil with river rocks. Drip irrigation is used and the wines are trained on and extended 7 Strand Perold trellis system. All vines are sustainably farmed.
Vinification: Grapes were hand and machine harvested during cool morning conditions and processed quickly under reductive conditions to preserve freshness. After gentle pressing and juice clarification, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 13-15°C using selected yeasts, with no malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured on fine lees for 2-3 months to enhance texture, then stabilised, lightly fined if required, and sterile filtered before bottling to retain its fresh, fruit-driven character.
