History: Over three centuries, Spier has brought together good wine, regenerative farming, contemporary South African art and warm hospitality - guided by one belief: good wine comes from good people and good soil. Our cellar is led by Johan Jordaan, twice named Chenin Blanc Master Winemaker. Home to one of South Africa's largest contemporary art collections, Spier draws on that art for this range's striking labels. This label features "Be Still Life" by Norman O'Flynn - a bright, breezy invitation to take a moment for yourself.
Regional information: These vines grow in a mix of shale and granite soils along the coast and slightly inland, ranging from 8 to 20 years old. Some are dryland farmed and some given a helping hand with irrigation. Best of all, cool sea breezes sweep in off the Atlantic to temper the warm Cape sun - slowing everything down and giving the grapes plenty of time to develop the fresh, punchy flavours this wine is known for.
Vinification: We pick the grapes in the cool of the early morning, when the fruit is at its freshest, then press them gently and ferment only the best juice in stainless-steel tanks to lock in all those zingy, aromatic flavours. Afterwards, the wine rests on its lees for a few months to build a little extra depth and character before bottling. The result is a lively, refreshing white with plenty to say.
