History: Piccini was founded back in 1882 by Angiolio Piccini who started with just 7 hectares. Piccini now has four separate estates in its portfolio and ranks as one of the most recognisable Tuscan brands worldwide with fourth generation Mario and Martina Piccini at the helm.

Regional information: Chianti is one of the best known Italian regions producing distinctive red wines with fresh cherry fruit flavours and smooth tannins. The landscape and climate are characteristic of Tuscany with rolling hills with warm sunshine tempered by incoming sea breezes.

Vinification: The best Sangiovese grapes are selected for Piccini Chianti Riserva. The grapes undergo soft pressing before being processed using the traditional method on the skins. They are fermented at controlled temperatures with a long maceration period to extract maximum fruit and balanced tannins. The wine spends 9 months in large oak barrels before release

Cork gone too tight since last yearI have been buying this wine over that last few years and since last year the cork has gone so tight that it sometimes breaks or I have to run the neck of the bottle under hot water even in summer.

Dreadful Wine - Wouldn't Even Cook With It!Supermarket Chianti seldom lives up to expectation and this is no exception - yet another disappointment.

This really is not a good wine, having a sharp, unpleasant taste which is not palatable, either with or without food. Neither I nor my wife finished our glass and I genuinely doubt we'll use it for cooking either!

I have little doubt there are very few Italians that would drink this - it's a national embarrassment of a wine: undrinkable, vinegary, tart, lacking depth, no real flavours to speak of, just unpleasant - a waste of time and money.

Even if this were half the price, we would never buy it again.

Sainsbury's need to make obtaining refunds for rubbish like this - when bought online - a lot more easy.

Smooth RedA nice Italian chianti, fruity flavours and smooth tannins made it an enjoyable drink! A good all rounder that was nice with steak, although didn’t feel it worked well with a blue cheese sauce. Would happily drink on its own or with red meat dishes.

Piccini Chianti ReservaA fine wine from Piccini. As it’s a reserva this wine has been made using specially selected fruit. When you open the bottle the bouquet just hits you with a fistful of cherries. The wine itself is light in colour and it’s not complex so is easy drinking which leans towards summer fruits. This would be perfect for Summer parties.

One to try.I was very pleased that I had the chance to try this Piccini Chianti Riserva, as it proved to be an enjoyable smooth dark red wine. I did try it on its own, but look forward to trying it soon with a roast beef lunch.

AverageBought for a Friday night to go with a steak meal. As a budget wine it’s not bad and we would probably buy again. Usually buy Malbec but thought we would give a try. Wasn’t blown away but not a bad bottle for the price!
