History: Ridgeview began with a belief that England could produce sparkling wines of true world class distinction. In 1995, husband-and-wife founders Chris and Mike Roberts planted the first vines in the Sussex countryside, guided more by conviction than convention. At a time when English wine was still largely unproven, they set out to transform a quiet corner of the South Downs into something extraordinary: a place capable of producing wines that could stand alongside the very best in the world.
Regional information: Grapes are sourced from our heritage Sussex vines and premier partner vineyards across Southern England. Mostly south-facing with free draining slopes, vines grow on a variety of chalk, clay, gravel and sandstone soils; ranging from between 10-50 metres above sea level, benefitting from a cool, maritime climate.
Vinification: Handpicked grapes are gently pressed in whole bunches and fermented in stainless steel tanks at 18-20°C using classic sparkling wine yeasts. A selection of white base wines go through malolactic conversion before blending with a perfectly judged fraction of red wine made from ripest Pinot Noir grapes. Secondary bottle fermentation takes place in our naturally cool underground cellars with average lees ageing of 24 months.
